Food supplementation in form of food supplements has a special place in sport nutrition. These can be both natural and synthetic substances. Their effect is expected through increase of biological value of nutrition, through support to the immune system and thus in increased resilience of the organism. Applications are aimed at prevention of damage to health, at acceleration and optimization of regeneration and performance of the body.
It is not possible to provide the higher need of nutritional components in sport by common nutrition at contemporary demandingness of sport training, whereas sufficient intake of nutrients, vitamins, mineral, and trace elements is considered as necessary prerequisite leading to success.

Supplementation of alimentation by food supplements is necessary mainly for adults because the efficiency of metabolism, nutrient absorption, and production of digestive juices is being reduced during aging. Beta-carotene, ideally in combination with other antioxidants for getting tanned nicely and for protection against impact of free redicals; chondroprotectives (chondroitin, glucosamine), hydrolyzed collagen for protection against formation of locomotive organs.
